Walking Out Talk - Global Warming

Wednesday, August 22, 2007, 05:23 PM EST [General]

Only the truly delusional could maintain that global warming isn't a reality. A quick perusal of the news on just about any day shows sign after sign that our climate is changing, and that the human race is the leading cause of this change. Climate scientists have been keeping accurate records of surface temperature for the past 150 years, and there is no doubt that the Earth is getting hotter. And that heating began not long after human beings started burning fossil fuels in large quantities, and is accelerating as carbon dioxide concentrations rise.

While many gains have been made regarding raising awareness on this vital issue, much still needs to be done. The changes needed to insure the survival of our species will be economically painful ones, and the courage to fight for and make these changes needs to be constantly reenforced. To find out what you can do, visit The Alliance For Climate Protection...a group co-founded by Al Gore and the centre of raising public and political awareness in this media-soaked culture. Sign up for updates on how you can help...I already did.

If we really hold the earth and life to be sacred, this is a no-brainer.

    Blessed be,

While I myself do believe that global warming is a reality, I can understand why some do not. 150 years is not a long time when we're talking about global climates. Before I was convinced of climate change, I was one of them that ranted on about how temperature fluctuations were normal. I mean, look at the Little Ice Age. But of course, we're in the middle of a warm interglacial wotsit at the moment. We don't want it to get any warmer. In 2000 years, when we're due for another glaciation, that is when we want it to be warm... all the same, I think I'd rather let it happen naturally. Wouldn't it be neat to walk from Russia to Alaska?

    Taliesin,

I had a conversation with a friend and discovered, she did not believe in Global Warming.
And for those who talk about the Little Ice Age...they need to know that its like equating a ditch in the road and the Grand Canyon...
I wish everyone would watch An Inconvient Truth. Al Gore wrote Earth in the Balance in 1993... he has always fought for the environment. I think that when he was deselected for the 2000 election it cost us more then we know.

People are so misinformed of what global warming is. But then maybe when hurricanes are normally cat 5 and more....when flooding occurs and Wall Street is under water and "weird" weather is a norm, they will understand what they have been poo pooing.

There is an interesting study called Daisy World...I think it was the forerunner of The Gaea Theory. Very interesting on how the Earth regulates Herself, and why carbon matters.

Thank you Taliesin for this reminder that Earth Mother is weeping over the deaths of Bees and Butterflies.
